A Letter to Teen Me - Passing wisdom about Motherhood

Dear Teen me,

I know you have many dreams and aspiration for your future life. I very well understand the hard work that you are putting in for a bright career. I do admire your sense of identity and individualness. You are going great. However, there are few others things, about which I want to make you prepare well ahead.

Life is more than making your own path, especially when you are a woman. God has made women with additional responsibility for running this universe. You know which responsibility? It’s "Motherhood". I know that as of now you don’t have much understanding of this whole motherhood phase and what is being a Mother oneself. But, you see, you will be a Mother one day. And when you are a mother, you carry many other responsibilities on your shoulders other than just living for yourself. You are seeing Amma every day but that is the only single sided view of big Motherhood world. A mother lives for her child also. She lives for the dreams of her kids and she puts her whole life in watering the hopes of her kids only. But this doesn’t mean you will not be having your own identity after becoming a mother. You will, for sure. And you would be even more successful in life if you can fulfill your desire along with fulfilling the desires of your kids.

When you'll become a mother, there will be many inner conflicts and confusions. From how to give birth to your child to how to send her away for studies. But, that’s when you are supposed to use your wisdom and understanding about life. A mother goes through many such moments when she is unsure about certain things. But that’s why I am writing you this letter. Prepare yourself for such days, dear teen me. Prepare yourself to take the decision out of the conflicting situation.

Prepare yourself to face judgmental people around you. They would judge you for being a working mother. They would even judge you for staying at home and giving full attention your family. They would criticize your enjoying ME time and they would never fail to prove your decisions and choices wrong. But, at the end of the day, your child will be YOURS. And no one else can understand better what is good for her other than you. So be ready to turn away from such negative talks and prepare yourself for not being a judgmental for others.

After you are a mother, you would need a lot of patience and strength to run with today’s fast life. So understand the importance of taking care of yourself. In future, you would be expected to remember taking medicine by yourself. You would even be supposed to take care of all the family members. And when you are healthy and well, then only you can take care of other’s health. Taking caring of yourself also means giving importance to your own wishes. You might have noticed how Amma kills her wishes to make room for family member’s wishes. However, this constant killing to dreams often invites unnecessary burden and stress. Happiness is needed for everyone and it is the most needed medicine for a mother as she carries such a unique job. So prepare yourself to nurture your passion, ambition, and longings even as a mother.

Above all, prepare yourself to be a self-admiring and self-motivating person. No one as such admires how mothers are doing their duties without much appreciation and recognition. And expecting others to give you boost at times brings disappointment. So, as a mother, don’t forget to please yourself with doing what you like, even if they are silly.

Rest I am confident about your patience and learning skill. You’ll learn a lot of new things being a mother and you might set an example for others with doing things in your unique way. Being a mother is the greatest reward of the world. And I am sure motherhood would fill your life with enormous love and contentment.

Be ready for this phase, prepare yourself my teen self.

Go girl, go!!

#MoreIndianThanYouThink Being an Indian Mother is Success for me

This world is a beautiful place. It’s really amazing how different countries with their unique cultures exist in harmony here. I know, there are some exceptions; however, I think that is almost negligible when I see the culmination of values and beliefs in our universe. Everyone is exclusive and different, yet all of us make this planet livable. As a mature person who got the chance to understand the ethos of a few other continents, I can proudly say that our country holds a different space in this world, a culture that is known for its strong family system and core values. Feeling proud about our mother land is no unique. But being an Indian, I have gained so much at my professional front.

Yes, I am a working mother of a 3-year-old boy. I have close to 9 years of experience in software industry and I am looking forward to work for more and more years. Being a mother and being a professional person bring two different kinds of challenges in life. And when you work for a demanding clien…

#MothersDay - A blog by Divya, ANAYA's Mother

A mother becomes a mother the day she gets to know about the little embryo inside her womb.
It all started one fine day when I did my pregnancy test and it resulted positive. Life changed from the very moment. I was excited but a bit nervous too. I and my husband were working in two different cities that time. So the excited supermom in me felt extra responsible to take care of the baby. I started spending my days managing home, office, long travel, shopping, exercise, reading and any and every thing which could be added to the list. My baby kept me motivated and never let me feel alone. At times when I felt low she kicked me as if she was saying ‘Don’t worry mom. You rock! :) However, by end of sixth month I felt exhausted and I decided to move to my mother’s place for delivery and give some time to my husband to settle down with his work life.

After seven hectic years of work life I was enjoying a peaceful time. Days were spent in all sorts of preparations to welcome the child. But…
